Kia will kick-start its ambitious electrification plans with the introduction of a new mild hybrid diesel model, the Sportage Ecodynamics+, later this year. The starter generator is mounted to the engine via a belt, and provides quick starts-so the engine can remain off when the vehicle is stopped-thereby reducing emissions.
Sportage will be the first model to offer the new EcoDynamics+ powertrain later in 2018.
Kia claims the EcoDynamics+ system will result in much cleaner and more efficient diesel engines, with as much as four per cent less Carbon dioxide emitted on the new Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure standard.
In "motor" mode the battery is discharged under acceleration, providing additional torque to the engine for a slight boost in performance under hard acceleration.

We've got EXCLUSIVE details on why she purposely neglected to praise the new mom while giving love to Kim and Kris. "Happy one month old mama", she said in the video.
Kia say the big plus for the new 48V system is that it's so compact it can be easily integrated in to existing vehicle architecture (it's heading for Kia's petrol engines too) without the need to reconfigure the engine bay or lose space to a big battery.
Kia says that the compact packaging of the system means that it'll be relatively straightforward to install in the brand's current model ranges. It is the first such development at Kia under the company's electrification strategy.
Controlled by an advanced ECU, the powertrain benefits from a new "Moving Stop & Start" function.
Expect to hear more details soon on the Sportage's use of the EcoDynamics+ powertrain, as well as United Kingdom pricing and specifications. This allows the internal combustion engine to automatically turn off during braking and in-gear deceleration, whereas the MHSG can re-ignite it whenever the driver presses the throttle.
Loveland-area weather: Chance of severe thunderstorms
Therefore, you can still expect lingering showers and storms in the forecast each day, even though the low will be moving away. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent with new rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
The 48V battery's DC/DC converter enables the new battery to connect to the vehicle's on-board power supply, leading to a significant reduction in the size of the 12V battery required to power the car's ancillary electronics. The adoption of the MHSG also means the conventional starter motor can be made smaller and lighter, reserved primarily for cold starts at extremely low temperatures.
Kia adds that the system is equally compatible with manual and automatic transmissions, and front, rear or all-wheel drive layouts.
Kia will announce more detailed plans for the roll-out of its new mild-hybrid technology later this year.
