The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons allegedly says there is no evidence of chemical weapons near a Syrian research facility targeted by USA airstrikes.

Justin Bronk, an air combat expert at the Royal United Services Institute, said he doubted Russia's claims, and that the remarks were "probably just posturing in this case to try and embarrass the U.S.".

According to Shoebridge, Wednesday's statement by the Russian military that no traces of chemical weapons were discovered at the Syrian sites targeted by the coalition was "consistent with what was being reported by media outside the US, UK and France".

Pahon said Russian Federation is using a disinformation campaign to distract attention from having moral complicity in supporting the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad and "the regime's atrocities and the civilian carnage in western Syria". The three governments launched airstrikes into Syria, hitting alleged chemical weapons facilities.

Col. Gen. Sergei Rudskoi said Russian Federation will supply Syria with "new missile defense systems soon".

The OPCW visit to Douma and sample collection would allow the worldwide watchdog to proceed with an independent investigation to determine what chemicals, if any, were used in the attack.

The Russian embassy in the Netherlands said in a tweet that the briefing would involve "witnesses from Syria who were at the staged videos of #WhiteHelmets" - a humanitarian organisation made up of some 3,000 volunteers working in rebel-held areas. The OPCW team is mandated to establish whether chemical weapons were used, but not to apportion blame.

But just days after President Trump vowed to end America's modest involvement in the conflict, Syria was once again grabbing Washington's attention after another chemical attack on civilians.

Russian Federation has also stuck to its claim that Syria's aging air defenses took down 71 of the 105 cruise missiles fired by the US and its allies.

Russian Federation is a key ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The most significant upgrade that Russian Federation could provide to enhance Syria's ability to shoot down jets and cruise missiles would be its S-300 and S-400 systems.

According to political scientist Andrei Koshkin, head of the department of political science and sociology at the Plekhanov Russian Economic University, Israel was anxious in 2010 as well, when Russia and Syria agreed on the supplies of S-300 air defence systems.
