Sacked FBI boss lays into Trump in TV interview

17 April 2018

White House Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway appeared on CNN Monday to sarcastically slam the idea the former FBI Director James Comey swung the presidential election, only for the show's chyron to parrot it as a honest response.

"This guy swung an election", Conway told George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America, referring to Comey.

In his tweet, Trump complained that Comey "drafted the Crooked Hillary exoneration long before he talked to her" and asserted that in deciding how to handle the case, Comey "based his decisions on her poll numbers". "Show me the swing states where she was above 50 percent on October 20 before Comey came out ..."

Conway's remarks followed Comey's interview with ABC's Stephanopoulos, in which the fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director delivered a scathing rebuke of Trump and his administration, and encouraged voters to vote Trump out of office.

Michael Cohen Is on a One-Way Train to Screwsville
Cohen said he paid Daniels $130,000 in exchange for her silence about her claim to have had a one-night-stand with Trump. Lawyers for Cohen said investigators "took everything" during raids last week on his residence and office.

In an explosive TV interview ahead of the release of his book, Mr Comey offered his version of events surrounding his sacking last May and the investigations into Russian election meddling.

But the president also said in an interview last May that he fired Comey at least in part because of the FBI investigation Comey was then leading into Russian interference in the election and potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

McCabe's attorney has asserted publicly that emails show "that Mr. McCabe advised Director Comey that he was working with colleagues at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to correct inaccuracies before the stories were published, and that they remained in contact through the weekend while the interactions with the reporter continued". "He was a very deft way of making things about him".

Hours before the interview was shown, the president, who sacked Mr Comey a year ago, unleashed a Twitter outburst that labelled him "slippery", suggested he should be put in jail and branded him "the WORST FBI Director in history, by far!" "He loved being alone in the Oval Office".

When Stephanopoulos accurately stated that wasn't true, Conway hopped into Trump defense mode and rattled off claims Comey wanted to siphon power away from the president by being in close contact with him.

"At the end of your interview, George, he gave a free political commercial, telling people to go out there and vote against the president and his interests", Conway said.

When asked about Donald Trump's thoughts on the James Comey interview, Conway responded, "The President thinks that Jim Comey is engaging in revisionist history". "As I said dozens of time, Hillary, not Comey, is why Hillary lost", she wrote.

I tried to ask Comey 'the most critical questions — George Stephanopoulos
Comey did not provide further explanation or examples to back up his claim , and Stephanopoulos did not press him about it. Former FBI Director James Comey says our president must be truthful - and Comey contends he is not able to do that.
