I tried to ask Comey 'the most critical questions — George Stephanopoulos

17 April 2018

During his Sunday night interview with ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos, Comey admitted that he does not think that Trump is "morally unfit to be president".

Halper was speaking with Fox News' Eric Shawn about Comey after he spoke out against President Donald Trump in an interview that was aired on Sunday.

Comey, who was sacked by Trump a year ago, acknowledged in the interview that his belief that Clinton would be elected president "was a factor" in his decision to reopen the email probe 11 days before the U.S. election, a development that Clinton blames for her surprise defeat.

Comey's book, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership, has been on Amazon bestseller lists for the past four weeks and, as of Monday morning, is No. 20 on the retailer's top non-fiction sales.

Comey did not provide further explanation or examples to back up his claim, and Stephanopoulos did not press him about it. Trump and the White House have assailed Comey's credibility leading up to the release of his book, with the President calling him a "slimeball" and a "proven leaker and liar" on Twitter.

Trump fired Comey in May 2017, citing the FBI's behavior in investigating Democrat Hillary Clinton and its probe into possible Trump campaign collusion with Russian Federation to tilt the 2016 presidential election.

Facebook data leak increases to 87 million users
Facebook gets some data on non-users from people on its network, such as when a user uploads email addresses of friends. He also said users should check their settings to see what apps are accessing their data.

Comey discussed the decision-making that went into announcing just days before the election that the FBI was re-opening the Clinton email investigation.

The former Federal Bureau of Investigation director, who served for almost four years, suggested to Stephanopoulos that impeaching Trump would be the easy way out.

He says he knows that's a "stunning" possibility and something that he never thought he'd say about a president of the United States.

But while Comey sharply criticized Trump, he said he hopes the president is not impeached. I don't remember spelling it out, but it had to have been. "And bad things happen in forest fires", Comey said.

Trump called Comey an "untruthful slime ball" and said it was his "great honor" to fire the veteran Justice Department prosecutor. "And I was devastated when she lost".

"This guy swung an election", Conway said on ABC's Good Morning America, seeming to suggest that Comey had contributed to Trump's victory - a theory unlikely to find favor with the president.

Djokovic advances easily in Monte Carlo
Nadal's victory at Monte Carlo past year made him the first men's tennis player in the Open era to win the same title 10 times. I'm enjoying being here in Monte Carlo in an event that always brings me to the best feelings possible.

But the president's attacks on Comey began even before the interview came out.

Former FBI Director James Comey says our president must be truthful - and Comey contends he is not able to do that. Excerpts from Comey's book also include subtle digs at Trump's appearance and hand size, which has been a point of contention with reporters in the past.

Trump has said he fired Comey because of his handling of the FBI's investigation into Clinton's email practices.

Prosecutors indicated in court filings last week that Cohen has been under criminal investigation for months by the USA attorney in Manhattan and that, unrelated to the FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe, a grand jury has been hearing evidence in the case. Comey: "It is stunning and I wish I wasn't saying it, but it's just - it's the truth".

'I was trying to be honest and clear with the American people. "All I can do is tell you again, the decision was made after that because I didn't know what was going to happen in that interview".
