Mother Charged After Toddler Tested Positive For Marijuana, Methamphetamine

Earlier in the week, a Texas mother was charged with child abuse after her baby tested positive for amphetamines, methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana, News Channel 6 Now reported.

Ecker told police she shared a bedroom with her child and admitted she had smoked marijuana and methamphetamine, but said she never did drugs in the presence of her child and her child had never been exposed to drugs.

Kaitlyn Ecker was charged with lewd and lascivious battery and transmission of harmful material to a minor, the Miami Herald reported. Wakulla County Sheriff's Office in their report wrote, "People "joked" about the child's ability to roll joints (for Ecker)".

At the beginning of January, the deputies launched a child abuse investigation in Ecker's case after learning that the woman might force her 2-year-old toddler to consumed unsafe narcotics.

Just a few days later, police executed a search warrant and confiscated glass pipes consistent with smoking meth from her residence in addition to marijuana paraphernalia. A search in January turned up pipes that tested positive for marijuana and meth residue, along with other drug paraphernalia and a bag of marijuana found among children's toys. Ecker allegedly claimed that she smoked weed recently, but that she hadn't smoked meth in months.

At this time, she now faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of unsafe drugs and criminal mischief, all three of which are considered felony charges. Police said that the toxicology revealed "chronic" use, meaning that the child consumed the drugs on "several times or on one or more occasions".
