In a statement, Team Scotland said: "Callum has been taken to hospital for medical review following his collapse as is standard procedure".

It also confirmed that Callum was undergoing further tests as a precaution.

Australia's Michael Shelley overtook Hawkins while he was on the ground to claim back-to-back Commonwealth titles.

Former athlete Steve Cram, commentating for the BBC, said it was a "disgrace". I had a couple of mates around Main Beach who said Callum was in a bit of trouble. He hit his head on the barrier.

On passing the distressed Hawkins, defending champion Shelley knowledgeable reporters: "I wasn't sure what was occurring". He's going to hurt himself and there's nobody anywhere near. Callum Hawkins gave so much only for victory to be cruelly snatched away which is why we will relish his next success all the more.

"Where on earth is the help?" he said.

Hawkins' team-mate Robbie Simpson had been working his way through the field and he punched the air as he crossed the finish line, his time of 2:19:36 securing the bronze ahead of Northern Ireland's Kevin Seaward with a time of 2:19:54.

While many Americans enjoy getting a tax refund, others would rather have access to that money throughout the year. Tax experts say you should not avoid filing your taxes is because you don't have the money to pay.

"Medics were shockingly slow to get there and then to act when they did. I think it's disgraceful".

Speaking from his hospital bed, Hawkins said: "Thanks for all your messages of support today and to the Gold Coast University Hospital staff". Obviously, the health of the athlete is absolutely prime.

"Sometimes medial people arrive too and the athlete has to decide whether they want to go on or not".

Mr Peters said there was "no reason" there would be deliberate delays.

It was the second heartbreaking collapse of the men's marathon, after a Namibian athlete was forced to pull out earlier in the event.

Many are outraged that it took so long for official medical help to arrive and that the spectators didn't help (one even pushed him back onto the course and others simply stood there and took pictures of a collapsed Hawkins), but it could be that many were anxious that if they did help, Hawkins would be DQ'd.

There are moreover strict pointers spherical accepting medical help with athletes coping with potential disqualification in the event that they're assisted.

At times this season, they've looked like a team that could be challenging for the Eastern Conference crown in a year or two. In addition, Jaylen Brown has been dominant this season and will be an important piece for the Celtics in the postseason.

The sight of Hawkins crashing into the bridge railing and collapsing on the road sparked an angry reaction from commentators and on social media, with Games organisers and nearby spectators criticised for their reaction.

"I was also concerned about the behavior of a small number of bystanders who chose to take images". He added: "This is not in keeping with the spirit of GC2018". I'm glad to be finished to be honest. "I was thinking I needed to get to the line before the same thing happened to me, and try and hold on to a medal". "You've got to be fierce and that was as fierce as I've ever been".

"I never felt too bad, I was exhausted, it was hot but it always felt manageable, on the right side of what was safe".

"A lot of concern about the Scotsman Callum Hawkins", Welsh said.

"You never want to see anything like that (Hawkins' collapse)".

"He didn't think he was as bad as what he was but it could have been worse if he did keep going". Hawkins, who was fourth at the World Championships a year ago, was reported one hour after the race to be conscious.

"I saw him and just tried to hang on".

Manchester City win the title: How pundits, managers, players reacted
Previous times, we almost threw it away and that was a feature of every season we won it. They've now won three of the last seven PL titles available.

Hawkins did not finish the race.
