Yankees, Red Sox Pay for Wednesday's Brawl

15 April 2018

Aaron Judge broke it up with a leadoff double in the seventh, but Porcello gave up only two hits and struck out six in seven walk-free innings of a 6-3 Red Sox victory in the rubber game of the first series of the season against their rivals from NY.

Porcello had thrown five innings of no-hit ball on just 60 pitches when the game was delayed after five completed innings.

On his 99th and final pitch, on a damp and chilly Thursday night, Rick Porcello rocked back and uncorked a changeup. Austin was given five games for charging the mound.

Yankees: RHP Sonny Gray (1-0, 3.60 ERA) will make his third start of the season Thursday. Mookie Betts hit a long fly to score a second run. Moreland will start in his place on Friday as the Red Sox open a four-game series with the Orioles. Austin Romine has managed to guide Gray through games fairly well, but Gray and Gary Sanchez weren't on the same page all that often in their first time working together this season, with Gray frequently shaking Sanchez off.

With the win, the Red Sox climb to 10-2, while the Yankees fall to 6-7. Past year he almost lost 20 games and led the American League in home runs allowed. When the game halted after the fifth due to a rain delay, it was uncertain if Porcello would come back out to try and keep his no-no going. Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton - neither of whom are known for their mean streaks - ended up at the center of the brawl for a period, with their size seemingly turning them into de facto enforcers in the melee.

Jeremy Corbyn: UK of 'waiting for instructions' from Trump on Syria
Jeremy Corbyn urged Theresa May to postpone the attack on Syria during a midnight telephone conversation on Friday. There have been calls from opposition parties and some Conservative MPs for Parliament to have a vote beforehand.

The 2016 Cy Young Award victor effectively utilized his slider from the get-go and the Yankees could hardly touch it.

Eduardo Nunez led off the second with an infield single and Jackie Bradley Jr. followed with a walk.

"I felt OK", Gray said.

NY jumped on Boston's bullpen, adding four more runs over next three innings.

The next hitter, Andrew Benintendi, knocked in a third run on a fielder's choice.

X-rays were negative on Ramirez's wrist. Austin slammed his bat into the ground and stormed the mound, prompting both benches to clear in the biggest brawl of the Major League Baseball season thus far.

Tensions are high after a benches-clearing brawl in Wednesday's game that led to the two main figures drawing suspensions.

Later in the game, Red Sox reliever Joe Kelly served up some vigilante baseball justice by nailing Austin in the side with a fastball. J.D. Martinez hit a grand slam and Hanley Ramirez homered for Boston.

Boston has jumped out of the starting gate quickly and is 10-2, which matches the best start after 12 games in franchise history.
