Apple begins iPhone 6s production in India — Economic Times

And now, it seems that it's planning to do the same for the iPhone 6s Plus.

As per the report, Apple has already begun trial production of the iPhone 6S Plus at the Wistron facility in Bengaluru. With the smartphone being locally assembled, the report claims that buyers can expect the prices to drop by about 5-7 percent, but that will only come in effect once the plant increases its production capacity.

Following up on a January report that Apple planned to produce low-priced iPhone 6s models at a new production facility in Bengaluru, India, the country's Economic Times said today that Apple is trialing iPhone 6s Plus production, with plans to begin domestic manufacturing in two weeks. Competitors OnePlus and Samsung also produce phones in India. Commercial production of the iPhone 6S is expected to begin in the next few weeks at Winstron's new assembly line near India's Silicon Valley.

As per the senior executives, the delay in price correction is due to facility's inability to meet the "entire requirement" of the iPhone 6s Plus model in India with the major chunk being imports of units manufactured in China. The iPhone 6s Plus, like all other expensive iPhones, saw a considerable rise in the prices. The country raised imported smartphone tariffs from 10 to 15 percent last December, and then from 15 to 20 percent this February.
