Organisers have urged athletes in Australia for the Commonwealth Games to respect the terms of their entry visas after Cameroon reported that a third of their team had gone missing on Wednesday. You know I'm not an island, I need people around me to get to a level that I want to get to.
The missing athletes were part of a team that participated in a training camp in Warwick before arriving on the Gold Coast.
With reasons for the disappearances being unknown, the sudden nature of the disappearances has triggered speculation that the athletes have fled with no intention of returning home.
The five boxers and three weightlifters disappeared from their rooms in the athletes' village in separate waves on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights.
Speaking on radio station Triple J's "Hack" program, president of the Refugee Council of Australia, Paul Power, explained why the athletes from Cameroon may have walked out. The missing weightlifters are Olivier Heracies Matam Matam, Petite David Minkoumba, and Arcangeline Sonkbou Fouodji.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the ABF said the Australian government had been "working closely with the organising committee and worldwide stakeholders to ensure Commonwealth Games officials and athletes were aware of their visa responsibilities".

An Australian Border Force spokesperson told SBS News the Department does not comment on individual cases, but visitors to Australia are free to enjoy their stay as long as they meet their visa requirements.
"There were big changes at CA and at first it was a bit of a slap in the face but when I stopped and listened there was a lot to learn and a lot that I could change to make myself better", she said.
Commonwealth Games organisers called for competitors to respect the law, mindful of the fact that more than 100 athletes overstayed their visas at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
