SXSW confirms cancellation of major show 'The Roots and Friends'

19 March 2018

Last week, Austin police responded to at least 370 calls reporting suspicious packages but found nothing risky in the wake of three package bombs that killed two people and wounded two others. Tonight's show has been cancelled.

An Austin concert set to star The Roots was abruptly canceled because of an unspecified "security concern", event organizers said Saturday night.

The Roots' scheduled Saturday evening performance at the annual South By Southwest festival was cancelled minutes before they were expected to go on stage, owing to an emailed bomb threat to Live Nation Music. "Trevor Weldon Ingram, 26, was taken into custody and charged with Terroristic Threat, and 3rd Degree Felony".

Even though that first floodlit race was now a decade ago, four of the competitors from that race will line up once again in 2018. So if it's like this in the future will be OK, but if this happens in my favoruite circuits then we will attack there.

Bud Light, the show's main sponsor, and SXSW both confirmed the cancellation on Twitter.

The Bud Light event was cancelled at 9:40 on Saturday as a precaution.

Ludacris, Dermot Kennedy, Jessie Reyez, Rapsody, Tank & the Bangas were among the musical performers and groups booked to perform alongside The Roots.

US Powerball jackpot climbs to $455 mln for Saturday drawing
In turn, the jackpots become bigger and bigger, making winnings of half a billion dollars - like this one - nearly feel routine. Over two months without a jackpot victor pushed the top prize for Saturday's Powerball drawing to an estimated $455 million.

The Roots' performance would have been the third edition of a Bud Light Fair Market event at the popular SXSW conference and festival, which celebrates the tech industry and the arts.

"Your safety and the safety of all fans at SXSW is our most important priority", the company wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

A statement from sponsors Bud Light reads: "Due to a security concern, we have made the hard decision to cancel tonight's Bud Light x The Roots SXSW Jam". Police say there is no indication of any ongoing security threat related to this incident. "Thanks for understanding", he tweeted.
