Trump wants the United States military to have a 'space force'

14 March 2018

While speaking to US Marines in San Diego on Tuesday, President Donald Trump suggested creating a branch of the military for space.

But that didn't stop President Trump for advocating for a "Space Force" today. "It's like the Army and the Navy, but for space, because we're spending a lot of money on space".

But the idea of a new military branch centered on the cosmos is in fact far from a Trump original.

Low-priced 3D-Printed Home Will Help Overcome Housing Shortages
Incredible houses printed from cement could help to end the global housing crisis, according to the company behind their creation. The proof-of-concept model cost US$10,000 to produce and took 48 hours to make, including the finishing touches.

Trump continued by noting that the concept of a space force was one he both thought up and had previously dismissed.

For decades, proponents and critics have debated adding a dedicated "Space Corps", which would absorb the Air Force Space Command's current missions. "I oppose the creation of a new military service and additional organizational layers at a time when we are focused on reducing overhead and integrating joint warfighting efforts", Defense Secretary Jim Mattis wrote in a letter to the ranking members of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees.

"You know, I was saying it the other day because we are doing a tremendous amount of work in space", he told the group of U.S. Marines.

"Then I said, 'What a great idea!' Maybe we'll have to do that, '" Trump said. Maybe we'll have to do that'. We are going to lead the way in space.

Trump also says that "very soon we're going to Mars", and that that wouldn't be happening if his 2016 rival, Hillary Clinton, had won. But he may be thinking of the National Defense Authorization Act that he signed into law in December.
