Parliament stalemate continues, government, Opposition trade charges

The Karti Chidambaram case, seen as a way of targeting senior Congress leader and former minister P. Chidambaram, has also added fuel to the tension, even though the BJP has not commented on it in recent days.

Addressing a news conference here, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and Lok Sabha member Mohammad Salim said the opposition parties had written to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, lodging their protest and seeking her intervention to allow the House function in a normal manner.

Demands are generally guillotined after discussion and voting of demands of some of the ministries in the two Houses, but no such discussion has taken up because of daily disruption, though the government was listing discussion and voting of demands of the Railway Ministry and Social Justice Ministry every day in the Lok Sabha and that of Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation om the Rajya Sabha.

Earlier, the House was adjourned within minutes after it met for the day. Opposition parties protested against passing of the Budget without a debate as the session is to continue till April 6. He, however, indicated that the government is rushing with the passage of the Union Budget in the next two days even if the pandemonium persists.

Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said the government has agreed to a short duration discussion - which does not have a provision for a vote. The Congress is anti-democratic.

The BJP Parliamentary Party held its meeting on Tuesday morning, which was attended among others by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, party chief Amit Shah and its patriarch Lal Krishna Advani, among others.
