Microsoft to set up two data centres in the UAE

As more data retention laws are signed, having local data centers strategically located throughout the world will become a strength of Microsoft's cloud services.

Microsoft is planning to open up two cloud computing centres in Germany, industry sources have told German business publications WirtschaftsWoche (WiWo) and Handelsblatt.

The Microsoft Cloud will offer enterprise-grade reliability and performance as well as data residency from datacenters, targeting an initial availability of 2019.

The corporation intends to be the first global cloud operator to introduce cloud regions in Switzerland in the cantons of Geneva and Zurich. "Our work with HCL has been centered around building solutions that will drive significant value and help our customers transition to the cloud", said Michael Angiulo, CVP - Microsoft Corp. "In areas like digital transformation, and the development of new intelligent services, our ambition is for the Microsoft Cloud to form a strategic part of the backbone for regional economic development". Also starting March 14, existing Office 365 customers from France and French territories will be able to opt-in to be moved to the local cloud regions in France. The new announcement expands Azure regions to 50 regions across the globe, which includes plans for 12 new regions.
