Marcus Smart diagnosed with torn tendon

14 March 2018

At issue is the initial diagnosis of Dr. Brian McKeon, the Celtics team physician who has told Smart he suffered a torn ligament in his right thumb.

The Celtics may have caught a break with Kyrie Irving's left knee soreness, which is believed to be no more than tendonitis and will not require much time off, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Charania reports Smart will seek second opinions on his injury, so his timeline for recovery is undetermined.

The Celtics will be without Irving, Marcus Smart, Daniel Theis and Jaylen Brown for the contest due to injury.

Though he proceeded to play impressive basketball the rest of the game, the Celtics now fear he could need surgery that would keep him off the court for the rest of the season.

Irving is expected to miss the entire week as he manages a sore knee.
