Sensex surges over 500 points; FMCG, auto stocks gain

The 50-share Nifty was trading 102.80 points or 1.01% higher at 10,329.65.

Major gainers were ITC, Tata Steel, Sun Pharma, Infosys, Wipro, Adani Ports, Bharti Airtel, HDFC, RIL, IndusInd Bank, M&M and L&T, rising up to 2.74.

Around 2.50 p.m., the barometer 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) traded at 33,839.35 points - up 532.21 points, or 1.60 per cent, from the previous session's close. The index posted its biggest single-day gain since March 1, 2016, when it had jumped 777.35.

The Nifty Private Bank index was trading 0.91 per cent up at 13,892 around 10:10 am (IST). Dow Jones surged 440 points to close at 25335.74 and S&P 500 rose 1.7 per cent to end the day at 2786.57.
