A DAYCARE owner has been jailed for more than 21 years for drugging children in her care with melatonin so she could spend all day tanning and going to the gym.
January Neatherlin, 32, was sentenced on Friday (local time) after admitting she left seven infants alone at her illegal day-care centre, Little Giggles, in OR a year ago.
Neatherlin was convicted of drugging the children on Melatonin to sleep while she went for a tan or to work out.
"She repeatedly administered a sleeping agent to a room full of infants, toddlers and children, and drove off in her vehicle to fulfill her narcissistic needs", one father said in court. "January has no respect for human life", the parent continued.
The other counts of criminal mistreatment are for previous incidents with children.

January Neatherlin, 32, who was sentenced Friday, had been running an illegal childcare operation called "Little Giggles" for four years and lied to parents saying that she was a registered nurse.
The court heard that in January 2014 an 11-month-old was taken to hospital after suffering bleeding and swelling in her head at the nursery. With that said, I hope the court and the parents accept my apology. That was the period January Neatherlin referred to as "nap time"-and when she headed out to go tanning and to CrossFit".
Police in Bend, Oregon, were tipped off by the woman's ex-boyfriend and a former roommate when Neatherlin was seen leaving home when she should have been at the daycare.
The sentencing memo stated the children left at her daycare while she made trips outside were made to sleep with the aid of melatonin.
Parents of another child said the girl had blisters in her mouth and on her shoulders when she was picked up, the Bulletin reported.

Before being sentenced, she admitted "failing" the children in her care, but denied ever having hit a child.
Prosecutors said the 32-year-old's crimes are more than just criminal mistreatment as she had a history of criminal activity. "I failed you all". She was told to drop her number to three or less children.
She was sentenced to 31 months on each of 12 counts she pleaded guilty to in February, bringing her sentence to 21 years and four months in prison.
The judge at her trial told Neatherlin, her actions led to behavioral issues, financial struggles and relationship problems in kids she was given the responsibility to look after.
