Former MLB pitcher and two-time All-Star Esteban Loaiza was arrested by authorities in San Diego on Friday for possessing large amounts of heroin or cocaine.

His best season came with the Chicago White Sox in 2003, when Loaiza won 21 games and finished second in voting for the Cy Young Award.

He's now being held at Chula Vista's South Bay Detention Facility with bail set at $200,000.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo tweeted the details of Loaiza's arrest.

Energy demands soar in Iceland in race for bitcoins
The value of bitcoin may have stumbled in recent months, but in Iceland it has so far only known only one direction: upward. The AP story said that McCarthy was starting to think about whether bitcoin firms should be taxed as a result.

Officers found a sophisticated compartment used to hide contraband when searching Loaiza's vehicle, which led them to obtain a search warrant for his rental home. He was charged with three felony drug counts, including having over 20 kilograms of heroin and cocaine.

Loaiza's arrest in 2006 prompted the A's to no longer stock alcohol in either the home or visiting clubhouses.

Investigators then obtained a warrant to search Loaiza's Imperial Beach home where they discovered the suspected cocaine, which has an estimated value of $500,000. He's due to appear in court on Wednesday.

He was set to be arraigned on the charges Wednesday in a Chula Vista courtroom.
