Prince Henrik of Denmark, the husband of Queen Margrethe who was famous for his public unhappiness at never being named king, has died at the age of 83. No further details were given.
Diagnosed with dementia in September 2017 and hospitalised in Copenhagen since January 28 for a lung infection, Henrik passed away late Tuesday. Henrik has two sons with the queen, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim.
"Here the prince can be surrounded by the family and stay in an environment that matters to him", Lene Balleby, head of communication, told Danish media.
In 2016, the Prince renounced his title of Prince Consort and retired from his official duties. The queen already had a designed-just-for-them sarcophagus at Roskilde Cathedral in Denmark.

Born Henri Marie Jean Andre de Laborde de Monpezat in France in 1934, he married Margrethe in 1967.
Prior to his marriage with Margrethe, he worked in the diplomatic service.
