Virginia Tech stuns No. 2 Virginia for road upset

11 February 2018

Justin Robinson and the Hokies knocked off No. 2 Virginia in one of the biggest wins in program history.

The upset, which was capped by a go-ahead layup from Kerry Blackshear Jr. with 5.8 seconds remaining in the extra session, snapped Virginia's 15-game winning streak that dated back to December 16.

The Cavaliers (23-2, 12-1) still hold a two-game lead in the ACC over second-place Clemson with five games left in the regular season but failed to sweep the season series in the Commonwealth Clash. Virginia ranks 49th in the country in basketball efficiency, with 1.087 points per possession. Four players scored in double figures for the Cavaliers as they snapped their two-game losing streak at Cassell Coliseum. But it didn't happen.

Virginia's success this season can be attributed to the team's defense. Virginia Tech has a lot to play for, as they want to make a push towards the postseason and a higher seed so they are not matched up against tougher foes early. While offense is their main focus, the Hokies have not allowed a team to shoot better than 44 percent in any of their last four wins. As it turned out, the Hoos lost the game thanks in part to a pair of missed free throws by an elite free throw shooter. "Offensively, that was one of ... his worst games".

Leicester will only sell Riyad Mahrez to a non-Premier League club
Leicester City haven't had an ideal start to 2018, particularly in the league , where they've won just one of their last four. Riyad Mahrez was denied his transfer to Manchester City and that has caused much internal war at the King Power Stadium.

Fast forward to late in the overtime period.

Devon Hall led Virginia with 16 points.

Here's how the Hokies pulled off the 61-60 upset.

UVA inbounded and Hall was fouled again, this time with 13 seconds left. Like Robinson and Hall before him, Blackshear missed. Fortunately Jerome put up a deep, rushed three-pointer that was close to the target, and the Hokies celebrated a huge 61-60 road victory that greatly enhances their NCAA Tournament resume.

Dana White Confirms Yoel Romero Will Fight Robert Whittaker Next
Rockhold was off to a good start going to the leg kicks, but Romero used this as an opportunity to gauge his opponent's strategy. Romero needed assistance leaving the cage with a badly injured leg and will likely need some time off to recover.

UP NEXT: The Hokies are back on the road as they take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. Ty Jerome made both baskets for the Cavaliers, and the sophomore had a chance to win with a three-pointer from National Basketball Association distance - well within his range - but the shot bounced off the front iron as the buzzer sounded in regulation. For the game, they were 22-of-51 (43.1%) overall and 11-of-29 (37.9%) from the outside. The Cavaliers were 12-point favorites over a Hokies squad they had routed 78-52 in Blacksburg.

Virginia Tech also managed to outrebound UVA 37-36.

Falling behind early on Saturday amid a raucous atmosphere, Virginia Tech steadied itself after Coach Buzz Williams called timeout seven minutes into the first half.

Virginia's aspirations of perfection in the ACC came to a jarring end Saturday night.

Another White House staffer resigns amid domestic abuse allegations
He says it didn't happen", Trump told reporters in November during the weeks before Moore's eventual loss to Democrat Doug Jones. On Friday, speechwriter David Sorensen also resigned after the White House learned of allegations against him.

The Cavaliers will be back in action Tuesday against the Miami Hurricanes, while the Hokies have a showdown against the Duke Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium looming Wednesday evening.
