Nancy Pelosi Made an Eight-Hour House Speech to Defend DACA

11 February 2018

The House Historian's office told CNN that Pelosi's speech is the longest on record on the House floor, according to their records.

Taking advantage of a rule that allows only top party leaders the special right to speak as long as they want, Pelosi had called aides at 7:45 a.m. on her drive to work Wednesday and instructed them to send out an all-member request for stories from dreamers and select Bible verses.

Oh, and she spent all of that time on her feet without any breaks AND wearing 4 inch heels.

Pelosi said she opposed that the spending deal because it does not include a permanent solution for undocumented immigrants affected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programme. Pelosi has been sharing statements from DACA recipients about themselves and their successes in the US.

High winds postpone Olympic men's downhill
But three hours before it was supposed to start, race organizers said the downhill would be moved to a different day. The downhill at the 1998 Nagano Games was rescheduled on three occasions, also because of heavy snow and rain.

Pelosi's marathon speech seemed partly aimed at the liberal wing of her own party, who seethed as Senate Democrats cut a budget deal that could stall momentum behind the effort to resolve the Dreamers' plight. "The young people are our future and these dreamers are part of that. They've been enriched ... by the greatness of our country". When she finally finished speaking at 6:11pm EST, she then tweeted out a message of appreciation to everyone, writing, "Just seeing all of these #GoNancyGo messages". While McConnell has scheduled a debate around DACA protections for next week in the Senate, the House has no plans to hold a similar debate.

Voters agree. In the month of January alone, the lead of Democrats in the polls fell nearly 4 points.

Pelosi was speaking against a compromise federal budget deal recently announced by Senate leaders that would lift spending caps and avert a looming government shutdown - but does not address immigration. That's her stance, she said, unless Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, commits to holding a floor vote on legislation that would protect Dreamers. But Ryan said he'll only allow the House to vote on an immigration bill that Trump will sign.

The Democrats never brought a bill to the floor before losing the majority, he added. So maybe it's time to get rid of it? When Democrats have been in the minority, she has kept her representatives in check, even as Ryan and his predecessors have had to pull bills from the House floor because they got the whip count wrong.

Asus Zenfone 5 leaked with iPhone X-like notch
The exact release date of Asus ZenFone 5 is not installed, but it will reveal during the announcement at the end of this month. An image of the ASUS ZenFone 5 Lite (attached above) has been leaked online by the ever so reliable leakster Evan Blass.

"She mentioned my name, mentioned my high school I was from, and mentioned my job and my story", he said.

So, if Pelosi is not organizing a Democratic revolt to shut down the government to give amnesty to illegal immigrants, what was she doing Wednesday?

So what, exactly, was the point of Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's record eight-hour speech on the floor of the House of Representatives Wednesday?

Boehner's roughly one hour speech was dubbed a "fila-Boehner".

Another White House staffer resigns amid domestic abuse allegations
He says it didn't happen", Trump told reporters in November during the weeks before Moore's eventual loss to Democrat Doug Jones. On Friday, speechwriter David Sorensen also resigned after the White House learned of allegations against him.

Ms Pelosi was advocating on behalf of undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children, known as "Dreamers". The House, meanwhile, passed a short-term bill on Tuesday that would extend funding for the government until March 23, but it is expected to be altered in the Senate ahead of a Thursday deadline.
