Another White House staffer resigns amid domestic abuse allegations

11 February 2018

One of the U.S. president's closest aides, staff secretary Rob Porter, resigned on Wednesday after the publication of allegations that he had abused his two ex-wives.

Ms Corbett contacted the Post before the allegations against Mr Porter became public this week.

On Friday, speechwriter David Sorensen also resigned after the White House learned of allegations against him.

Speier, who has been among the lawmakers leading efforts to crackdown on sexual misconduct in Congress, blasted Trump for not condemning domestic violence after a week, in which two White House aides resigned in the face of such allegations. She claims that in that time, he "ran a auto over her foot, put out a cigarette on her hand, [and] threw her into a wall", among other abuses.

The Washington Post cited Sorensen as saying that he made a decision to step down because he "didn't want the White House to have to deal with this distraction".

A police officer said that the Pakistani forces had attacked the Khadi Karmara forward areas in Poonch at around 11:00 hours today.

Corbett said several of the incidents involved alcohol and acknowledged that she slapped Sorensen a number of times after he called her a vulgar term.

The president's response was a stark contrast to the sentiments expressed by Chief of Staff John Kelly, who sent a memo to White House staff condemning domestic violence. The White House even granted a temporary waiver to Porter's security clearance since he was originally denied due to the abuse allegations according to reports.

She alleged that Mr Sorensen ran over her foot with his auto, extinguished a cigarette on her hand, threw her into a wall, and made her fear for her life while they were on a boat off the coast of Maine.

Porter and Sorensen have denied the charges.

"It should be able to focus on continuing President Trump's historic accomplishments for the American People", Sorensen reportedly said in his text message.

Team Canada leads in Figure Skating at 2018 Olympics
Three-time world champions and former Olympic champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada earned 80.51 to take the lead. The number is far behind their best score of 61.97 set previous year due to problems caused by Min's untied costume.

Despite White House communications director Hope Hicks drawing criticism for her handling of Rob Porter's domestic abuse allegations, the young Donald Trump ally has remained unscathed as far as her White House position goes.

The White House review process served the President poorly. "It's an obviously tough time for him. He says it didn't happen", Trump told reporters in November during the weeks before Moore's eventual loss to Democrat Doug Jones.

In a statement, Raj Shah, the deputy White House press secretary, confirmed Sorensen's departure.

"We all could have done better over the last few hours, the last few days, in dealing with this. but the emerging reports were not reflective of the individual we had come to know", Shah said Thursday. "But it was very sad when we heard about it and certainly he's also very sad now".
