Bungie Announces Some Subtle, But Necessary Changes To Destiny 2

13 January 2018

Destiny 2 co-director Christopher Barrett has published a huge update announcing sweeping changes to the shooter, roughly a month and a half after the last one. Now, in a new blog post, Bungie has been talking about how the future will look, both short-term and looking further ahead, and while there are some things that look promising, fans fear that it is too little too late.

To that end, Barrett says the game will be shifting the item balance so desirable items like Ghosts, Sparrows, and ships can be earned directly as "activity rewards" for in-game actions rather than as random drops from Bright Engrams.

Destiny 2 players won't have to worry about a lack of content in 2018. We are adding an Exotic accessory tab to Vault collections so you will no longer need to spend Vault space on Exotic Ships, Sparrows, and Ghosts. These will soon be unlocked through activity rewards rather than "Bright Engrams" collected for levelling up.

Giving players more direct purchase options and make adjustments to Bright Engrams to allow players to get the items they want more often.

The company's Project Zero team discovered the chip vulnerabilities past year as it outlined in a blog post last week . Google claims that they have had no performance complaints since implementing these solutions, a big win for customers.

Earning experience will also receive some tweaks because Bungie admits that right now it's unfair and feels like an endless grind.

The developer also revealed its plans for the rest of 2018, starting with a big update on 30 January that will add Masterwork Armour in addition to weapons. The Masterwork Armor provides increased damage reduction while using your Super and you can reroll the armor stat type on Masterwork Armor, and similar to Masterwork weapons, you can upgrade a piece of armor to Masterwork by spending Masterwork Cores and Legendary Shards. Season three will bring with it changes to a crucible, including ranks, private matches and return of 6v6 matches - which was the standard in the original game.

Bungie today released the first substantial Destiny 2 update roadmap for the new year, after pledging in late November to communicate more with the game's community and fix longstanding issues that have riled fans since the title's launch in September. These include mods featuring Raid-specific perks, an adjustment to make sure Raid items drop with each major encounter.

Raid rewards will also be improved before the end of the month, with a Raid item dropping after each major encounter and an expanded array of items available for purchase through the Raid vendor.

Work is underway on a full rework of armor and weapon mods.

February will also feature Mods 2.0, "a full rework" of mods to pare down redundant mods, allow for more unique theming, and "greatly increasing their impact on your power".

Season 3 will introduce Seasonal Crucible Ranks. Your performance will be tracked through your wins and losses in multiplayer matches. Gamers will be able to invite their friends to play on the map and mode of their choice. A February patch will rework the game's mod system - one of the most commonly requested changes online and in-game - add a text chat to the Tower (for PC players) and reduce the frequency of duplicate exotic drops.
