Ford Faces Class-Action Lawsuit For F-Series Super Duty Diesel Emissions

12 Января 2018

In April of 2017, a USA federal judge ordered Volkswagen to pay a $2.8 billion criminal fine for rigging diesel-powered vehicles to cheat on government emissions tests. According to a report by Bloomberg, Ford is being sued by F-250 and F-350 Super Duty owners, as they claim the trucks are putting a lot more harmful contaminants in the air than the pickups are supposed to.

The suit, which seeks class-action status, adds Ford to the growing list of companies facing claims of cheating on diesel emissions testing.

More recently, German prosecutors investigating whether carmaker Daimler manipulated emission tests on its diesel cars have looked at whether Bosch was involved.

Hagens Berman has launched lawsuits in the a year ago against General Motors and Fiat Chrysler as well as engine maker Cummins, making similar allegations.

The suit filed in MI also named German auto supplier Bosch as a defendant. The global retaliation for the use of so-called "cheat devices" started with Volkswagen in 2015, and since then, at least another four automakers - including Ford - have been accused in the United States of using similar tricks to pass emissions testing, while emitting pollutants in quantities that are many times what is legally allowed. In an emailed statement, the automaker said, "Ford vehicles do not have defeat devices".

The vice president, Ford Motors, David Filipe say the diesel model will comply with US emissions rules. The company called the suit claims "baseless".

"Bosch takes the allegations of manipulation of the diesel software very seriously". "Bosch is cooperating with the continuing investigations in various jurisdictions, and is defending its interests in the litigation". The law firm alleges that the trucks pollute "at levels up to 50 times legal limits".

"The lawsuit said the trucks at issue represent a profitable and key part of the Dearborn automaker's offerings, noting that it charges about "$8,400 for diesel-equipped vehicles over comparable gasoline Super Duty trucks".

Ford's new 10-speed automatic is standard and features a Power Stroke diesel specific calibration while Ford's Auto Start-Stop is standard.
