CES 2018: Samsung Unveils The Future Of Connectivity And Autonomous Driving

12 January 2018

This new platform follows announcements in September that Samsung set up a strategic business unit within Harman focused exclusively on developing self-driving vehicles and advanced driver assistance technology.

Harman, which is now a subsidiary of Samsung, has a long history in automotive industry, most famously with sound systems.

Samsung has pulled the wraps off some new autonomous driving tech that it has been working on including the DRVLINE Platform that is an open, modular, and scalable platform allowing the building of advanced customized cars of the future.

Blake Bortles, Jaguars Survive Bills, Will Face Steelers in Divisional Round
Taylor almost ran for a 2-yard score prior to Hauschka's field goal but was tripped from behind by defensive end Calais Campbell. The Jaguars , leading 7-3 midway through the second quarter, faced a third-and-9 from their own 9.

Samsung Electronics has introduced its DRVLINE platform aimed at OEMs and mobility as a service (MaaS) providers in autonomous driving markets. The challenge is simply too big and too complex. Samsung says that customization also helps to future-proof the platform. The platform leverages Samsung's expertise in electronics, IoT, and embedded systems, including "in-car compute for Levels 3, 4, and 5 automation". The system will be able to give lane departure warning, forward collision warnings, detect pedestrians, and have support for automatic emergency braking.

The show is exactly the right place for Samsung to unveil its first components for autonomous driving and infotainment solutions that it has been developing with Harman International, which it bought out around a year ago as part of its major push into the vehicle electronics market.

5G is the next evolution of cellular connectivity and HARMAN and Samsung are gearing up to deliver an industry first 5G-ready automotive solution. How long until the yellow light turns red? And just this week at CES, Chinese tech giant Baidu unveiled a major update to an open self-driving vehicle platform of its own called Project Apollo that makes some of the same promises as Samsung.

Former WWE Star To Compete In The Women's Royal Rumble
McCool, per Johnson's report, is not "100 percent locked in" to appear just yet, but she has spoken with WWE about turning up. McCool has not yet agreed to compete in the Royal Rumble Match as it was only noted that she spoke to WWE officials about it.

The Digital Cockpit platform brings an entirely new generation of communication and ergonomics inside vehicles, allowing drivers to focus on the road ahead while intuitively and safely interacting with their in-car technology. The $8 billion deal to buy Harman in March past year was the biggest overseas acquisition ever made by a South Korean company, and it's now starting to look like a very wise move.

HARMAN and Samsung are on a joint mission to excel as far as the future goes.
