Sensex, Nifty Seen Up On Global Cues

Key Indian equity domestic indices- BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty opened on a positive note during early morning trade on Friday.

The broader NSE Nifty too slipped by 9.50 points, or 0.09%, to end at 10,118.25, after moving between 10,069.10 and 10,147.95.

Dalal Street saw investors hunting for bargains in recently-battered bank, auto and metal stocks, that came under the weather in the previous session on the back of the central bank's decision to hold repo rates in its sixth bi-monthly monetary policy meeting.

North Korea's state media confirmed the arrival of Feltman and his entourage late on Tuesday without offering more details. The joint USA and South Korean aerial armada includes American aircraft from the Air Force, Navy and the Marine Corps.

The 30-share Sensex was trading higher by 190.36 points, or 0.57%, at 33,139.57, with all sectoral indices in the green, led by consumer durables, bank, metal, and auto. Domestic institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 995.11 crore, while foreign funds sold shares to the tune of Rs 1,217.92 crore on Wednesday, provisional exchange data showed.

Shares of Biocon surged 15% after the biotechnology major said it has received regulatory approval to market a biosimilar of cancer drug Herceptin in the US.

Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors and Maruti were the top gainers on Sensex. Sensex climbed 242 points or 0.74% to 33,191.75 while the wider Nifty was up by over 76 points or 0.76% to 10,243.60. Shanghai Composite, however, shed 0.08 percent.
