Airtel, Intex to tie up and launch affordable 4G smartphones

The strategic tie-up with Airtel will help Intex offer very affordable smartphones that will accelerate the shift of feature phone users to the smartphone without pinching the pocket.

Both Intex and Airtel added three new Intex smartphones to the Airtel Mera Pehla Smartphone portfolio. The devices are available at an effective price of Rs 1,649, Rs 1,999, and Rs 4,379 respectively. Now, the telecom operator has collaborated with Intex, and has launched three budget Android smartphones called the Aqua Lions N1, Aqua A4 and Aqua S3.

Airtel is aggressively expanding its partnership with domestic handset manufacturers to launch smartphones under 'Mera Pehla Smartphone' initiative. But there's a catch.

Intex's three devices will be sold to Airtel customers for a cashdown payment, on which the No 1 phone company will give cashbacks over three years on condition that those opting for these 4G devices would need to recharge their phones with a minimum pack every month over next three years. The phones are being offered with Airtel Rs 169 plan, which includes data and calling benefits. Intex has brought its already launched Intex Aqua S3 and Intex Aqua A4 under the offer.

The new Aqua LIONS N1 will be available to Airtel customers at an effective price of just Rs. 1,649 while its market price is Rs. 3,799.

It comes with a 5-inch HD IPS display and is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core processor. The Lions N1 and Aqua A4 are backed by a 1,400mAh and 1,750mAh battery respectively. The dual SIM 4G smartphone packs a 1750 mAh battery, and the it sports a 4-inch full touch WVGA screen. The Aqua A4 features a 5-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel selfie shooter.
