Kroger Recalls Purified Water for Babies Over Mold Contamination

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recalled a brand of baby purified water because of complaints of mold.

Kroger recalls gallons of comforts for baby purified water with fluoride due to mold discovered in some of the containers. The mold found in the water, Talaromyces penicillium, may not be visible. The water was sold in 14 states at Kroger stores and other supermarkets, including Food 4 Less, Jay C, Owen's and Payless Super Market. The UPC number on the product is 0 41260 37597 2 and the plant code is 51-4140. The recall includes water with sell-by dates from April 26, 2018 to October 10, 2018.

Symptoms of exposure to mold, including Talaromyces penicillium, can cause immediate or delayed allergic reactions from inhaling or touching the mold or microscopic mold spores.

"While no health risk is associated with this product, out of an abundance of caution, we removed this product from sale several weeks ago", a company spokesperson said. Allergic reactions can include including sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, skin rash and anaphylactic shock.
