Paine earns surprise recall for first two Ashes Tests

17 November 2017

Root said he was unfazed by talk that Australia would target him as he prepared for the first of five Ashes Tests at the Gabba and said his side will be hitting back hard.

The 32-year-old, who has posted one century from 91 first-class games, instead faced England in a tour game at Adelaide Oval then featured in the most recent Shield round as a batsman.

Uncapped Western Australian Cameron Bancroft replaces 10-test Renshaw as David Warner's opening partner after scoring a mountain of Shield runs in the leadup to the first test in Brisbane starting next Thursday.

Bancroft, who is also a wicketkeeper, amassed an unbeaten 228 with other scores of 86, 76, 76 and 73 for his state side to force his Test claims, while Renshaw has struggled for runs for Queensland. Usman Khawaja retains his side despite Glenn Maxwell's contention. The right-hander last played Test cricket in 2010. "Chadd's inclusion in the squad is with a view to the Adelaide Test and the conditions that we may see there", Hohns said.

It's more commonly known as CTE, and it's a debilitating disease that develops as a result of repetitive brain trauma. The scans indicated the presence of tau, a protein that builds up over damaged brain cells.

The selections were described as "bombshells" in Australian press, while former Test bowler Stuart MacGill lashed the selectors as "morons".

"Tim was identified as an global player a long time ago and has always been renowned as a very good gloveman, also performing well for us whenever he has represented Australia in any format", said selector Trevor Hohns.

Rumours that Paine would be preferred to Matthew Wade were confirmed last night, along with a recall for Shaun Marsh, the 34-year-old about to start his eighth reincarnation as a Test player.

"Some would say you don't want to peak too early and get too many big runs early in these warm-up games but ultimately getting good habits is always a good thing so that's the way we have to approach it". "Cameron has been a player of interest to us for some time now, having been unlucky to miss out on the Test tour to Bangladesh that was cancelled in 2015", Hohns said.

Plenty of free content updates announced for Middle-earth: Shadow of War
The Outlaw Tribe Nemesis Expansion is set to follow on 12th December, preceded by the free Online Fight Pits DLC on 5th December. Publisher Warner Bros. has announced a series of free content updates, with the first ones rolling out on November 21.

Six changes have been made in the Australia team with only skipper Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner, Peter Handscomb, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon retained. "He is a very talented and tough cricketer", Hohns said.

But Hohns said the selection panel did not feel Renshaw was batting well enough to merit Test selection.

"We still view Matthew (Renshaw) as a player of enormous talent, but he is out of form at the moment and we don't feel an Ashes Test match is the best place for him to find form", he added.
