Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo named National League Manager of the Year

The Managers of the Year for the 2017 baseball season were announced on Tuesday, with Torey Lovullo of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Paul Molitor of the Minnesota Twins winning the honors. As well, the Diamondbacks this season claimed a spot in the NL Wild Card Game, which they won over Black's Rockies.

In the NL, Lovullo, a first-year manager, received 18 of a possible 30 first-place votes in balloting by members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America, becoming the third rookie manager to win the NL award in the past four years, joining Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers last year and Matt Williams of the Washington Nationals in 2014.

Lovullo accumulated 111 points (18 first place votes) followed by Roberts with 55 (five first place votes) and Black 43 points (three first place votes). The Cleveland Indians' Terry Francona, the 2016 victor, was the runner-up with 11 first-place votes. "Minnesota last had a Manager of the Year in 2010, when Ron Gardenhire won in the Twins" last playoff season; their other Manager of the Year was Tom Kelly in 1991. Not only that, but the Twins traded some good players at the deadline because they felt they were out of the race.
