Chandy, the lone NCP face in the cabinet, is in a spot over alleged encroachment of a lake and violation of wetland rules for construction of facilities for his resort in the backwaters of Alappuzha.
Amid mounting pressure on the government from the opposition seeking Chandy's resignation, party state president T P Peethambaran Master said there was no such situation where the resignation of the state Tourism Minister was required.
According to the sources, the AG has observed that since the collector's report has been challenged by Chandy, it was up to the state government whether to wait for the court's verdict or take a decision on the report before that.
Poland, 22 other European Union members sign defence pact
Mrs Mogherini said that by coordinating their efforts, European countries would get better value for money in defence. EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini described the signing of PESCO as a "historic moment in European defense".
Meanwhile, CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran said the state government would take an appropriate decision on the issue. That being the case, the Minister's writ petition before the High Court could well invite adverse observations from the court, the CPI leaders said.
The Congress-led UDF and BJP demanded Chandy's resignation after Alappuzha district collector T V Anupama confirmed that a paddy field had been reclaimed for laying the road to his resort.
The AG, C P Sudhakara Prasad, had recently informed the Kerala government that the Alappuzha collector's report on the alleged encroachment of land for a resort owned by Chandy was legally binding and that its findings could not be ignored.
Rajasthan police arrests 1 'gau rakshak' for killing man transporting cows
The Rajasthan police later gave a clean chit to the six assailants he had named in his dying declaration. His fellow passenger, Tahir, is being treated at a private hospital in neighbouring Haryana.
Though CPI's Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan requested the Chief Minister to initiate criminal proceedings against Chandy on the basis of the report, Pinarayi sought legal opinion over it, allegedly to buy time or to avoid taking action.
The petition is expected to come up before the court for hearing on Wednesday. Chandy has already become the symbol of political arrogance and power abuse in Kerala.
Chief Minister Pinarayi, who had forced his own party's central committee member EP Jayarajan to quit as Industries minister within a few days after he was accused of nepotism and made Saseendran resign within hours of the eruption of the sex scandal, had vehemently justified and defended Chandy whenever the issue came up in the Assembly.
