Indian SC halts Rohingya deportation till 21 Nov

"The issue involves human rights of many", the top court said in its observation.

Attorney Prashant Bhushan said the court had been expected to issue its ruling Friday, but delayed the decision until November 21, saying it wants more time to hear a petition on behalf of his clients, two Rohingya challenging the government's deportation plans.

In September, the government informed the apex court that the "illegal" influx of Rohingyas was "seriously harming national security of the country". The state has a multi-pronged role. It, however, allowed petitioners to approach it in case of contingency. The court told the government that no Rohingya refugee should be deported until the next date of hearing in the case.
