Firecrackers ban: SC to hear traders' plea today

In the recent development, the Supreme Court has refused to relax on the ban of the sale of firecrackers in Delhi NCR.

The Supreme Court banned the sale of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR region until November 1, with a goal to reduce pollution caused by firecrackers on Diwali, but using a loophole, the Gurgaon administration has permitted residents who have already bought firecrackers to burst them on Diwali.

As reported by NDTV, the apex court said that it was "pained and sad" that a communal colour was being given to the order. The court said a complete ban would be a "radical step".

The court's refusal to relax the ban came in the wake of an appeal by traders seeking more time to sell the unsold firecracker stocks for which they had already spent millions. "But this is a legal issue", Justice A.K. Sikri, who leads the Bench, said. "Celebrate this Diwali with Diyas & love". After the celebration, the Supreme Court, answering to the year 2015 petition by three kids aged among six years and 15 months, banned the trade of crackers.

Last year, the top court suspended all licences which "permit the sale of fireworks, wholesale and retail within the territory of NCR".

According to the Newspaper, Diwali falls on October 19 this year.An acrid smog forced authorities to close schools and ban construction activities after Diwali last November.
