'White Widow' reportedly killed by United States drone strike

12 October 2017

A convert to Islam from southern England, Jones was nicknamed the "White Widow" by the British press after her jihadi husband Junaid Hussain, also an IS militant, was killed by a drone in 2015.

It emerged last night that jihadi Sally Jones, known as the White Widow, died in a USA drone strike on the border of Syria and Iraq.

Jones, a former guitarist in an all-girl punk band, has another son, 20, who remained in Britain.

Quoting a British intelligence source who had been briefed by US counterparts, The Sun reported that Jones and her son had been killed in June close to Syria's border with Iraq, as she was attempting to flee the IS stronghold of Raqqa.

The newspaper said the blast was kept secret by the Central Intelligence Agency over concerns Jones' twelve year old son, Jojo, may have also been killed in the incident.

Jones had been going under the name Umm Hussain al-Britani, and issued threats against the United Kingdom from her twitter account, urging Muslim women to launch terrorist attacks during Ramadan.

Jones travelled with her husband Junaid Hussain to Syria in 2013 to join IS.

Britain's The Sun newspaper cites U.S. intelligence sources as saying Jones was killed in June.

Jones also published more then 1,300 names of United States personnel - many of whom were serving at United Kingdom air bases - that her husband had hacked.

At the time of his death, the 21-year-old from Birmingham had allegedly been planning "barbaric attacks against the West", including terror plots targeting "high profile public commemorations".

The 50-year-old used her Twitter account to recruit women and shared pictures of herself with weapons.

She made extremist comments such as: "You Christians all need beheading with a nice blunt knife and stuck on the railings at Raqqa ..."

In July the wife of a British Isis fighter, Aisha, told Sky News she had met Jones while in Isis controlled territory and said she was unhappy and wanted to return to Britain. "She told me she wish to go to her country".

One of her plots, foiled by investigators, would have involved kidnapping and beheading a USA soldier.
