Seoul To Separate Aid To N Korea From Political Situations

Under the plan, the South will provide $4.5 million for a nutrition program run by the World Food Program (WFP).

"Through the New York IR (investor relations event), we will show that the foundation of the South Korean economy is firm regardless of external risks such as the North Korean nuclear issue, and that the new government has a firm belief in the direction of economic policy", Kim told reporters Monday following his visit to the Shinhan Bank headquarters in Seoul.

The aid decision was made after a meeting of government officials chaired by Unification Minister Cho Myong-gyon.

Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon is scheduled to meet with foreign investors in NY on Wednesday (local time) and intends to reassure the global financial community that the South Korean economy remains solid despite heightened tensions over North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.

North Korea tested a suspected hydrogen bomb earlier this month with an explosive yield of several hundred kilotons, enough destructive power to level a city.

Teenager returns lost wallet with $1500 inside to owner
Earlier this week, 18-year-old Tyler Opdyke was passing out fliers in a neighborhood when he found a wallet outside of a home. Then, he considered the family who lost the money, walked up to their home and left the wallet on their doorstep.

Minister Kim said the country is also closely working with the U.S.to limit the North Korean risks, while strengthening worldwide alliances, including not only Japan, the United Kingdom and France, but also China and Russian Federation.

Hulshof said around 200,000 children are suffered from "acute malnutrition, heightening their risk of death and increasing rates of stunting", and that around 350,000 children under five remain unvaccinated against life-threatening diseases.

The approval for the aid to the DPRK marked the first time since the Moon Jae-in government was inaugurated in May. "And this is what the global community agrees with, including the U.S., Russian Federation and Switzerland".

Moon had said aid was something to be considered separately from political issues, quoted by his office.

The previous government suspended humanitarian aid to its northern neighbor following the DPRK's fourth nuclear detonation in January past year.

South Africa likely to host Zimbabwe for four-day pink ball Test
In the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Test Rankings, India are at number one position while South Africa are second. That gap will be filled by Zimbabwe, who have not played a Test in South Africa since 2004/05.

Following North Korea's latest missile launch last week, the Finance Ministry said that close monitoring of the South's financial conditions revealed the market appeared steady and that sudden stock hiccups seem unlikely.

North Korea has conducted two more nuclear tests since then, with its most recent and largest taking place early this month.

Less than a day after the announcement, North Korea fired an intermediate-range ballistic missile on Friday morning, which flew over northern Japan and landed in the Pacific.

Such provocations have sparked strong disapproval from the worldwide community, especially from the United States and Japan.
