West Indies Considered Walk-off in Rain Curtailed Game

17 September 2017

None of the West Indies team at Chester-le-Street on Saturday had been involved in their side's recent 2-1 three-Test series defeat in England.Instead Brathwaite and his men had arrived directly from the Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 tournament.

Gayle, 38 next Thursday, hit the England bowling attack with a typically brutal assault, living up to his self-imposed moniker of universe boss in the wake of his global captain Carlos Brathwaite bigging up opening partner Evin Lewis on arrival in the UK.

But Gayle's 21-ball innings, featuring three fours and four sixes ended when, after guiding Plunkett to backward point, he was run out by Jason Roy's throw to the bowler as he ambled through for a single after stopping half way.

Chris Gayle, who returned to worldwide cricket against India in July having not played for Windies since the final of that 2016 World T20, has been included in the tourists' squad.

The other singles match, if needed, is scheduled to pit Belgium's Steve Darcis against John Millman. Belgium is hoping to reach the Davis Cup Final for the third time, the most recent being 2015.

Brathwaite, however, bowled Hales for 43 made off just 17 balls, including eight fours and a six.

West Indies won the match by 21 runs.

"It's the batting certainly", Morgan said.

However, England limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan defended the decision to stand Stokes down from Saturday's clash by arguing the move could yet prove beneficial ahead of the upcoming Ashes tour of Australia.

In what has been a seesaw battle, the Bruins and the Tigers continue to trade blows as the game enters the fourth quarter. Memphis has played three home games because its September 9 game at Central Florida was postponed due to Hurricane Irma.

Chris Gayle (40) and Evin Lewis (51) got West Indies off to a flying start as they raced to 72 without loss in just six overs after England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and fielded.

West Indies finished on 176 for nine, although their expectations would have been much more ambitious as Chris Gayle began in ominous mood only to sacrifice himself with a lackadaisical run out.

That match saw fellow left-hander Lewis make a stunning 125 not out.

A rematch between the pair would have provided some much-needed context for a stand-alone fixture that could be seen as little more than a palate-cleanser between the Test and one-day worldwide courses.

Budget plan: New cellphone tax, reduced tax credits
Bronin asked for an additional $40 million this fiscal year while the GOP plan adds $7 million in Education Cost Sharing funds. Those new limits would reduce required pension payments by $119 million this fiscal year and by $151 million in 2018-19.

But it nearly did not happen after Walton's injury, with Brathwaite telling a post-match news conference: "I had a chat with a few of the boys in a huddle while Chadwick was getting treatment and majority said it was unsafe".
