Power Restored to 4.8 Million Floridians Impacted by Hurricane Irma

NextEra Energy Inc's (NEE.N) FPL, Florida's biggest electric company, said on Friday about 1.1 million customers had no power, while Duke Energy Corp (DUK.N) reported that more than 371,000 customers were in the dark and Tampa Electric, a unit of Emera Inc (EMA.TO), reported about 39,000 were without power.

Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU), the main utilities company for Florida Gators, have been very successful in their restoration efforts.

As of noon Friday, Georgia Power has restored power to 940,000 customers impacted by Hurricane Irma. Customers can report and check the status of an outage 24 hours a day by contacting Georgia Power at 888-891-0938.

"FP&L; spokesperson Rob Gould said restoration to almost all customers in the eastern half of the state should be completed by Sunday night", member station WLRN reports.

If a tree or tree limbs have fallen on a power line or pulled it down, do not approach the line or the tree.

Almost 8,000 personnel are working statewide to restore power.
