Jalen Hurts hits Calvin Ridley for 78-yard TD

17 September 2017

Ridley moved into a tie with Pro Football Hall of Famer Ozzie Newsome for fourth on Alabama's career list with his 16th touchdown catch. It was his only catch on the night, but it was a memorable one.

Eight different players caught passes and two more were targeted. It was his first touchdown catch since 2015. Derrick Henry (2013-15) is sixth with 45.

"Jalen played an outstanding game today, run and pass", Alabama coach Nick Saban said.

Colorado State's high-powered offense took its shots against the Alabama defense and at times found success, including a pair of lengthy scoring drives in the second quarter. "We certainly tried to play some other players, but we didn't do a very good job functionally and really kind of let them back in the game". This football team makes you beat them week in and week out.

The second touchdown throw was an exact delivery as well. Hurts was pulled in the final minute of the third quarter but came back in to finish the game after the Rams scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns.

Sam Bradford a gametime decision for Sunday
Pittsburgh said one reason for Bell's usage - he played 43 of the team's 60 offensive snaps - was the number of penalties. Bradford's injury is to his left knee, the same knee he twice required surgeries to fix a torn ACL in 2013 and 2014.

Hurts had a 14-yard keeper on the Tide's first play and finished a six-play, 75-yard drive with a 27-yard touchdown run.

The Tide needed just 10 minutes and a few big plays from Hurts to race to a 17-0 lead.

After Alabama's defense forced a quick three-and-out, Hurts hit Calvin Ridley on a slant and Ridley did the rest, outrunning everyone for a 78-yard touchdown to make it 14-0 with 8:56 left in the first quarter. The game was just 6:11 old.

On the defensive side of the ball, junior Keith Holcombeled the way with a career-high nine total tackles and a pass breakup.

The kicking game was also sound with Andy Pappanastos nailing two field goals, both of which were over 40 yards. Pappanastos' previous long was 35 yards and he had missed his previous attempts outside of 40 yards. Tight end Miller Forristall had one catch for 12 yards, but left the game in the second half with an apparent knee injury. If it holds, it would be a season-ending injury for the sophomore.

Colorado State: The four-touchdown underdogs didn't wilt under the early onslaught.

Alabama was simply dynamic on its first two drives. The Tide led the Rams 24-10 at intermission. The touchdown gave Washington a 27-0 lead on the Bulldogs.

Alabama as No. 1: Alabama improved to 66-11 all-time when it is ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press poll. It was the most passing yards he's had since the Iron Bowl a year ago. Colorado State's two-point try failed.

Alabama: It wasn't a typical Bama defensive performance. Yet, Vanderbilt is not going to be Colorado State University.

Here are three thoughts on the game played at Bryant-Denny stadium. This is no Mountain West school.

The last time the Crimson Tide played two non-conference teams opponents from the same league back-to-back was in 2014, when it played Conference USA's Florida Atlantic on September 6 and Southern Miss on September 13. The Tide is 59-19-4 all-time against the Commodores, including a 21-game winning streak that dates to 1985. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT with the game airing on CBS.
