EPL: Arsene Wenger braced for knife-edge Arsenal season

13 August 2017

He has only gone from strength-to-strength playing for the Gunners and was particularly impressive in the last season wherein he established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League.

Sanchez missed Arsenal's scintillating start to the new Premier League season, an abdominal injury forcing him to sit out the 4-3 victory over Leicester.

Spaniard Iborra has been ruled out of the trip to the Emirates Stadium with a groin strain and joins centre-back Robert Huth and midfielder Danny Drinkwater on the sidelines.

"Yes", Wenger said in July, as quoted by The Daily Telegraph.

The 36th-ranked Schwartzman next faces the victor between seventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov and Robin Haase . I think my concentration and just my playing has gone up a notch. "I got some decent rhythm going".

Arsene Wenger continues to insist Sanchez will not be sold this summer, and speculation has claimed he is now willing to remain at the club for one more season.

Wenger wouldn't say if any bids had come in for Sanchez.

According to a report by The Sun, Arsenal are determined to retain Alexis Sanchez beyond the transfer window and have offered him a new £300,000-a-week contract to ward off the likes of Manchester City and PSG. He will not play against Stoke.

Having played in the Confederations Cup up until the final on July 2, Sanchez was given an extended summer break which included missing Sunday's Community Shield penalty win over Chelsea.

With Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey also serious doubts for the season opener against the Foxes, Arsenal will have to rely on the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi to lead their attack.

Wenger added: "For us, Alexis Sanchez is a loss, of course. I believe he will be a very great player". All our players got a decent number of minutes of good competition, so overall the squad looks good.

That Wenger is not going into the new campaign with the fans still at his throat owes much to Arsenal's strong finish to last season.
