Jamie Carragher insists signing Virgil van Dijk won't solve Liverpool's defensive woes

12 August 2017

Carragher argued that it was something the team need to work on collectively, Redknapp reckoned that Virgil van Dijk would help shore up their leaky defence.

Van Dijk is the Reds' priority target in the final weeks of the transfer window, with the Southampton centre-back having handed in a transfer request this week.

"The way Liverpool set up, set-piece-wise, they're always going to concede goals".

"You think where they were weak last season: set pieces, getting done on the counter-attack, that's what happened with the first goal - for the corner - it comes from a counter attack". No matter which defenders they buy or how much they cost - it won't make a difference.

Bigg Boss on Star Maa & Vijay captivate viewers
The complainant claimed that Oviya was suffering from depression due to the activities forced on her during the show. While an official confirmation about the same is awaited, it will indeed be interesting to see her back on the show.

"He wouldn't be in Firmino's position [for the corner], he would have been in Lovren's or Matip's because they'd have been coming out of the team".

"Liverpool are a shambles, all over the place", Carragher said on Sky Sports after 45 minutes.

But that just acts like a red flag to a bull for Carragher, who continues to rant and argue with his colleague, as you can see above.

Carragher was adamant - extremely adamant - that one player, regardless of how good they are, can not solve Liverpool's shaky defence. Watford should've been one-nil up before the corner, nothing changes.

Wenger lauds Giroud as Arsenal beat Leicester 4-3
Danny Welbeck levelled for Arsenal , but Vardy's second goal looked to have won it for Leicester until the sensational finale. Lacazette's header inside two minutes was the joint-fastest opening goal to a Premier League season.

The 24-year-old, who claimed 87 goals in four years at Everton, completed a £75m move to Old Trafford from Everton last month.

"So Liverpool have got to take 15 goals away that they concede year in, year out".

It takes their tally to 27 goals conceded from set-pieces during Jurgen Klopp's reign - the most racked up by any of the top-six during that period. If you want to win the Premier League, you've got to be conceding 30-35 goals.

One Arsenal fan managed to hit back at the former Liverpool player with a response that contained more medical terminology that we're used to seeing in the world of football Twitter.

Pogba reveals trophies Manchester United are targeting this season
Carrick, who replaced Wayne Rooney as skipper after his departure to Everton feels Matic can become a great player for United. The fiery Scot does not think Pogba is in the same league as Old Trafford legends Eric Cantona and Ryan Giggs.
