Buffalo Bills starting over at wide receiver and secondary in 2017

12 August 2017

According to Bleacher Report on Friday, the Bills' trade involves sending away wide receiver Sammy Watkins and a 2018 pick in the sixth round to the Los Angeles Rams.

The second trade, which was announced by the Bills immediately after the first, sent cornerback Ronald Darby to Philadelphia for receiver Jordan Matthews and a 2018 third-round pick.

Sammy Watkins traded to the Los Angeles Rams. He was limited to just eight games last season, catching 28 passes for 430 yards and two touchdowns. He finished just 18 yards receiving shy of the 1,000-yard mark as a rookie, then followed it up with 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns in his second season despite missing three games due to injury.

Advantage Watkins. The dynamic athletic ability that made him the fourth overall pick has shown - when he's been healthy - on the field in Buffalo, leading to one of the highest yard-per-reception averages over the last three years in the NFL.

As a result, the yield on the benchmark ten-year note, which moves opposite of its price, fell by 2.9 basis points to 2.212%. All the 11 major S&P indexed were lower, with technology sector's 0.62 percent leading the decliners.

In sum, the Bills swapped cornerbacks (Gaines for Darby) and receivers (Matthews for Watson) while netting additional second- and third-round picks in 2018.

The Bills are a team trying to build for the future.

The 2017 draft saw the Bills moving in the opposite direction from what they did in 2014, moving out of the top 10 and getting an additional first-rounder in 2018 from the Kansas City Chiefs.

First of all, the team brought in Sean McVay from Washington to be its new head coach.

He had a scan two days ago and he's out for a while - I don't know if it is two weeks or one more week, but he will not be available.

The Bills created $1.4 million in cap room with the two deals.

"I don't know. The good thing about that is it's past my pay grade", Shady said of Buffalo's organizational approach. This is great for not only a re-draft late flyer but great news for the dynasty enthusiasts out there who have or are looking to snag Jones in rookie drafts. Darby was considered their top cornerback on the depth chart. "We look forward to having him in a Rams uniform", Rams general manager Les Snead said.

"E.J. has been a dedicated professional during his time with us, and we wish him and his family the best in their future endeavors".

Watkins joins back up with teammate Robert Woods, who the Rams signed this offseason. But Webster's familiarity with Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips' system - playing on Phillips' Denver Broncos defenses the past two years - gave him an advantage and ultimately won him the job.
