Is a Supreme Court justice about to retire?

When the justices take the bench Monday, they are expected to decide the case of Trinity Lutheran Church of Columbia, Missouri, which was excluded from a state grant program to pay for soft surfaces on playgrounds run by not-for-profit groups.

Trump seeks to halt visits from residents of Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen for 90 days so his administration can review the screening procedures for visa applicants from those countries.

A 120-day ban on refugees also is being allowed to take effect on a limited basis.

Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel A Alito Jr and Neil M Gorsuch, dissented from part of the court's opinion- they opted for a complete revival of the travel ban without the caveat on "bona fide" U.S. connections. The challengers in that case, led by the nonprofit International Refugee Assistance Project, argued that the travel ban is a thinly veiled attempt to block Muslims from entering the country, something Trump and his advisers talked about during and after the presidential campaign. That prospect always seemed remote, and is even more so during the final week of June, with the court scheduled to issue the term's final opinions on Monday.

Zuma wishes Muslims well for Eid al-Fitr
President Trump talked at large about Washington's commitment to defeat the "perverted ideology" of the terrorists. Despite events held by previous administrations, this year's Ramadan passed almost unobserved by the White House.

But the court said the injunctions were too broad to also include barring enforcement of the ban against foreigners who have no connection to the United States at all.

The high-stakes legal fight has been going on since President Donald Trump rolled out a travel ban just a week after his inauguration.

"The Executive Branch is entrusted with the responsibility to keep the country safe under Article II of the Constitution", U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement after the 9th Circuit ruling. Republicans hold a 52-48 majority in the Senate, and under rules they passed to expedite Gorsuch's confirmation they would need only a simple majority to fill the next court vacancy.

The court's opinion explained the kinds of relationships people from the six countries must demonstrate to obtain a US visa.

Takata, brought down by airbag crisis, files for bankruptcy
It said it would continue talks with the supplier but anticipated difficulties in recovering the bulk of its claims. November - New York Times reports Takata ordered technicians to destroy test results showing cracks in inflators.

Before taking their long summer break, the Supreme Court justices are poised to act on the Trump administration's travel ban and a separation of church and state dispute involving a Missouri church playground.

The Supreme Court left the lower-court injunctions against the ban in place, but only with respect to the challengers to the ban themselves and others in similar circumstances, meaning they involve people in the United States who have relationships with foreign nationals overseas and whose rights might be affected if those foreigners were excluded from entry.

"For individuals, a close familial relationship is required", the court said. The president announced the travel ban a week after he took office in January and revised it in March after setbacks in court.

But nine years later, he sided once again with the liberals on the court to strike down a Texas law that abortion rights supporters thought was the most strict nationwide. Rather than pursue an appeal, the administration said it would revise the policy. In March, Mr Trump issued the narrower order.

BUSINESS REPORT: Uber's Travis Kalanick forced out by investors
Uber has also lost executives from its product, engineering, mapping, communications, business, finance and self-driving units. Uber's troubled CEO and cofounder Travis Kalanick has resigned after a shareholder revolt, the company said in a statement.

A federal judge blocked it eight days later, an order that was upheld by a 9th circuit panel.
