Pilot seriously burned when blimp goes down at US Open in Wisconsin

16 June 2017

Playing in the same group in the first round of the U.S. Open, two of the world's best found unplayable lies in the tall fescue, pitch shots that went up the hill, then rolled back down, awkward stances and more than enough mistakes to place them both in danger of missing the cut.

Justin Maynard, a representative of the blimp company AirSign, told The Two-Way that the pilot had been transported to the hospital.

A blimp flying over the U.S. Open golf tournament has gone down in dramatic scenes. His 65 broke the course record at Erin Hills, and he has laid down a spectacular marker as to what it will take to win the weekend's competition. But 30 minutes later, fans, players and caddies at Erin Hills were seen pointing to the sky as the blimp plunged beyond nearby trees and into a farmer's field off of Highway 83.

"First responders were quick to arrive at the scene and the pilot is now being treated for unknown injuries".

Aerial video from a television news helicopter showed pieces of the flattened blimp on the field along with charred metal and grass.

Theresa May criticised for not meeting fire survivors on Grenfell Tower visit
Children and a baby were seen being thrown out of the windows to be caught by emergency workers and members of the public below. Firefighters guided residents out via a fire escape.

Newly branded as the "ultimate test in golf", the U.S. Open has always been famed for its toughness and Erin Hills, the longest ever layout for a U.S. Open, was expected to add to that hard-man reputation.

"If you look at how I've started the majors that I've won, I've sort of led from the front", said McIlroy, who was either leading or one off the lead in the four major championships he won.

Phil Mickelson was a long shot to play in this U.S. Open, and the odds got even longer with a forecast of no chance of rain Thursday. These type of golf courses might be the future: "8,000-yard golf courses", Els said.

This is the first year the golf tournament, one of the PGA's four majors, has been held at Erin Hills. "But any time you take 68 on the first round of a major, no matter what major it is, how easy or how hard the course is, it's good".

On the golf course, there was only a barrage of birdies.

Kalidou Koulibaly agent hints at Chelsea move
Koulibaly was impressive for Napoli this season and with John Terry leaving the club, Conte is looking for a replacement. The West London eventually ended up signing their former player David Luiz from Paris-Saint Germain.

Hadwin made his six straight birdies from No. 18 through No. 5.

Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson each lamented their performances on the greens after starting the U.S. Open with respective scores of 73 and 75.

"Another big-hitter hoping to make a mark this week is Northern Ireland's world number two Rory McIlroy, who has shaken off a niggling rib and back problem to report for duty in Wisconsin".

"We're testing every part of the shot making", Davis said".

"I just didn't putt very well, " Johnson said. He'll be attending his daughter's graduation in California and can't make it back for his 2:20 p.m. tee time. "I got 50 feet away before the first tank exploded, and then I pulled him about another 60 feet away before the second one exploded".

Warriors release official statement on potential White House visit
It wouldn't be a surprise if the Warriors decide to ditch the post-championship presidential photo-op. Head coach Steve Kerr and Stephen Curry have been critical of President Trump in the past.
