Goan holiday horror: Family attacked with swords, knives

A Vasai family's dream holiday turned into a nightmare after a petty scuffle during breakfast ended in a violent assault with a sword and knives around 2km from Goa's capital of Panaji, reported Times of India.

At least 20 people were injured, including a five-year-old and one of the accused. The two got into a fist fight which was resolved by the cafe manager and the waiter. The holidayers, about 50 of them, were returning to Mumbai from Goa when their chartered bus was set upon by a bunch of locals at Merces, near Panjim.

According to the police, the tourists, including women and children, were travelling in a bus when, the accused, armed with swords and knives, blocked the road and attacked them over a tiff with one of the tourists earlier at a hotel. The driver of the bus, Shivaji Shelke, too, was beaten up. Three of the youth have been arrested, but the fourth, Sai Kundaikar, is on the run.

"The driver was pulled out and all four persons assaulted him, causing serious injuries with the intention to kill him and thus, they attempted to commit the murder of the driver", he added. "We left the restaurant, but they accosted us outside and started attacking us", said Bhupesh.
